Northern Insurance Solutions (NIS) is proud to announce its sponsorship of the 2024 End of Harvest Golf Classic, a much-anticipated community event scheduled for Friday, 13th December 2024, at the Ayr Golf Club.
The Golf Classic, hosted in the heart of the Burdekin region, is a nine-hole Ambrose competition that welcomes teams of four to take part in a fun-filled day while supporting a vital cause.
The End of Harvest Golf Classic has become a cherished event within the Burdekin community, offering an opportunity for locals to come together and contribute to important charitable initiatives.
Last year’s event was a resounding success, with over 300 participants hitting the pristine fairways of the Ayr Golf Club. Thanks to the generosity of players, sponsors, and the wider community, a remarkable $29,600 was raised in 2023, all of which was donated to CORES (Community Response to Eliminate Suicide), a local organisation dedicated to suicide prevention.
The funds raised during the 2023 Golf Classic have had a lasting impact on the Burdekin region. CORES was able to use the donations to provide free, life-saving mental health services throughout the community, including:
- Four one-day CORES suicide intervention training sessions, reaching 39 participants.
- Seven Self-Care and Mental Wellbeing workshops, attended by 51 people.
- Two toolbox talks, offering workplace-based support.
- A CORES choices presentation delivered to a local high school (Grades 11 and 12).
- Ongoing meetings for the Burdekin Family Support Group, which assists families affected by suicide.
- 37 free counselling sessions for individuals in crisis.
These vital services are all provided free of charge, thanks to the fundraising efforts of the 2023 Golf Classic. CORES continues to deliver workshops and training across the region, and its reach has expanded significantly since its inception in 2008. From the Burdekin to Townsville, Palm Island, Whitsundays, and beyond, CORES is making a measurable difference in the lives of those in need.
